Announcing your allocation directly
NOTE: Direct announcements of AMPRNet address allocations are usually reserved for larger regional or country wide networks. Please consult with your regional allocation coordinator and the AMPRNet network administrator to determine whether directly announcing your AMPRNet allocation is appropriate.
To announce your allocation directly via your Internet Service Provider (ISP) you will need to:
- Contact your ISP and ask them if they are willing to announce your AMPRNet allocation in accordance with the terms of the AMPRNet Terms of Service and Acceptable Use. Many ISPs won't do this, and others charge a significant amount for the service.
- Apply for your AMPRNet allocation via the Portal. Check the Direct box to indicate that your connection will be using a direct announcement of the subnet (via the BGP protocol).
- Upon verification and approval, the AMPRNet administrator will provide authorization to your ISP allowing them to announce your allocation.
NOTE: How your ISP chooses to forward traffic for your AMPRNet allocation varies by ISP. You will have to work with them to set this up.
NOTE: Upon approval, ARDC issues a no-cost lease for up to five years (renewable on request) for the subnet. This includes a letter of authority that should be provided to your ISP. ARDC does NOT SWIP subnet allocations.
