EULA FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About the Updated EULA
Why was the EULA updated?
We periodically update our terms and policies to reflect evolving needs and reinforce our common values. The updated EULA clarifies responsibilities and helps protect 44Net as a trusted and reliable resource for everyone.
Who is behind the update?
The new EULA was developed over the course of more than a year with contributions from people throughout the community. Individual volunteers, the Technical Advisory committee, ARDC staff, legal counsel, and the Board of Directors all participated, with the Board issuing the final approval.
What does the updated EULA mean for me?
For most users, the updated EULA doesn’t change how you use 44Net. It formalizes existing practices, ensuring everyone operates responsibly and in alignment with the community’s values.
What does it say about my responsibilities as a user?
The EULA sets expectations for all users to help maintain a reliable and fair network. These include:
- Using 44Net only for lawful, non-commercial purposes
- Ensuring both users and sub-users follow the same guidelines
- Keeping contact information up to date in the portal
What does the EULA say about sub-users?
A sub-user is anyone who accesses 44Net resources through another user but isn’t registered in the portal. For example, this might include individuals using 44Net via a regional coordinator, volunteer VPN operator, or club leader. Users providing access to sub-users are responsible for ensuring they follow the same guidelines and principles as a registered user.
How does the EULA protect me as a user?
The EULA defines the standards we uphold across the community and sets clear boundaries to prevent misuse. This protects each of us and helps ensure 44Net remains a trusted resource aligned with our shared values.
What are permissible uses of 44Net?
44Net is dedicated to lawful, non-commercial activities around learning, experimentation, and building. While amateur radio remains at the heart of 44Net, uses of the network can include a wide range of educational, exploratory, and developmental projects.
What happens if someone violates the EULA?
Violations of the EULA may result in actions like warnings, suspension of services, or termination of access. Such steps would be taken to protect the network, restore compliance, and safeguard the community.
Why does the EULA include mandatory arbitration?
Arbitration allows disputes to be resolved efficiently and fairly, without the costs and delays of litigation. This ensures that resources can remain focused on maintaining 44Net for the benefit of the community.
