Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)
Overview
The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is an advisory body that provides guidance related to the operation and development of 44Net. Although its purpose is primarily technical, it is not an engineering committee or working group. Instead, the TAC serves as a forum for discussion and advice from a technical perspective. Its recommendations are informed by experienced practitioners from the amateur radio, networking, and Internet policy communities.
Responsibilities
The TAC’s work may include:
- Reviewing and recommending policy related to 44Net
- Evaluating complex or unusual assignment requests
- Advising on technical and architectural questions
- Providing input on major changes
- Supporting other technical matters as requested by ARDC staff
Final responsibility for policy and operational decisions remains with ARDC.
Relationship to ARDC
The TAC advises ARDC staff and may provide recommendations to the ARDC Board of Directors. The TAC also serves as the voice of the community in many ways.
Membership
Members of the TAC are selected based on relevant technical experience, particularly in areas such as IP networking, routing policy, amateur radio networking, and related fields. Membership is intended to reflect a range of operational experience within the 44Net and amateur radio communities.
TAC members volunteer or are nominated by others in the community. TAC membership is considered and approved by the Board of Directors each year. The TAC may include members who are also volunteers in other roles within 44Net, but they serve on the TAC in an advisory capacity. A TAC member may serve for up to four years.
Current Members
The current composition of the TAC is maintained below. This table reflects the committee as approved by the ARDC Board of Directors for the current term.

Volunteering and Participation
The TAC is part of ARDC’s broader volunteer ecosystem. Information about volunteering with ARDC, including opportunities related to 44Net, can be found on the ARDC website:
Community members interested in contributing technical expertise are encouraged to participate in 44Net projects and volunteer activities.
Process
The TAC meets periodically to discuss agenda items identified by ARDC staff or referred for review. Discussions focus on 44Net operations, policy questions, and technical issues. The TAC may also solicit input from the broader community as needed.
Recommendations are communicated to ARDC staff for consideration and action.
History
The TAC was formed to provide structured technical input as 44Net’s scale and complexity increased. As participation and services expanded, a more formal advisory process became necessary to ensure consistency and technical rigor in decision‑making.
The TAC is still in its early stages, and its role and processes are evolving as it gains experience and feedback from the community.
